EC3D was founded in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa, when Troy and his business partner embarked on the exciting journey of 3D printing and designing accessories for their Toyota Land Cruisers. Through 3D printing their own creations and delving deeper into this increasingly popular production method, the name EC3D was conceived: EC representing Eastern Cape, combined with 3D.
The decision to immigrate to the Netherlands opened a new chapter. During a meeting in Utrecht with a supplier – over a nice cold biertje – it became clear to Troy that there was a significant and growing interest in 3D printing and design in the Netherlands. Interestingly, physical stores dedicated to this world were few and far between. While the possibilities of 3D printing – for parts, products, hobbies, and more – felt very futuristic, what seemed to be missing was that essential face-to-face, good old-fashioned customer service.
This realization sparked the search for a physical location, and EC3D in Maarssen was established. From that moment, our mission became twofold: to provide quality customer service through our online platform and in person. We envisioned our store as a welcoming space where anyone could come to enjoy a cup of coffee, explore the latest 3D gadgets, and truly enjoy their shopping experience.
