Polymaker™ ASA (1.75mm) — High-Performance Weather-Resistant Filament

Polymaker™ ASA (formerly PolyLite™ ASA) is an engineered alternative to ABS designed for superior UV, heat, and outdoor weather resistance. Retaining mechanical strength and color stability during long-term outdoor exposure, it features a smooth satin/matte surface finish that minimizes layer line visibility; detailed mechanical and thermal data can be found on the Polymaker™ ASA Technical Data Sheet Wiki Page.

Key Features:

  • High Heat Resistance: High Heat Deflection Temperature (HDT) of 100°C–103°C and Vicat Softening Temperature of 105°C.
  • Environmental Stress Crack Resistance (ESC): Resists micro-cracking caused by chemical exposure, humidity, and temperature variations.
  • ABS-Like Mechanical Performance: Provides tensile strength and impact resistance comparable to ABS while being easier to post-process/vapor smooth.
  • Eco-Conscious Packaging: Ships on 100% recycled cardboard spools with digital HEX color values provided for CAD matching.
  • UV Resistance: Retains color and structural strength under prolonged sun exposure, making it ideal for outdoor signs, automotive trim, and patio fixtures.
  • Thermal Stability: Outstanding heat resistance with a high heat deflection temperature that outperforms PLA and rivals ABS.
  • Mechanical Strength: High tensile strength and impact resistance ensure long-term durability in high-stress applications.
  • Chemical Resistance: Withstands exposure to oils, acids, and alkalis, making it suitable for demanding industrial or automotive parts.
  • Post-Processing: Smoothable with acetone vapor for a polished finish (caution should be exercised due to the flammability of acetone).

Note: Note: PolyLite ASA is now Polymaker ASA. You may still receive the old packaging as we transition.

Printing Guidelines: Managing Adhesion & Warping:

  • Build Plate: Use PEI sheets, BuildTak, or specialized bed adhesives such as Magigoo Original for reliable first-layer grip.
  • Enclosure: Critical for maintaining warm ambient air and minimizing warping and cracking, especially on larger prints.
  • Cooling: Reduce or completely disable part cooling fans (0% fan speed) to prevent rapid cooling and corner lifting.

Material Challenges & Handling:

  • Fumes: ASA emits Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) during printing; ensure proper room ventilation or carbon air filtration.
  • Moisture Sensitivity: Store filament in a dry, sealed container with desiccant to prevent moisture absorption and printing defects.
  • Stringing: Fine-tune retraction settings (1–2 mm at 20–30 mm/s) to minimize oozing and stringing.

Material Limitations:

  • Print Complexity: Requires a heated print bed, warm ambient temperature, and precise thermal control for best results.
  • Fume Management: Emits a strong odor during extrusion that necessitates proper ventilation.
  • Not Food-Safe: Unsuitable for kitchenware, direct food contact, or medical applications.
  • Material Sensitivity: Highly prone to warping if printed in drafty or humid ambient environments.
